The layout of our Grid network at the present time:

Present infrastructure

This image shows the connections between the routers and the switches in the grid network. To see which interconnects we have with the outside world see Nikhef network.

We have in total 4 different clusters. The bulldozers with 32 machines, the luilak1 with 33 machines, the luilak2 with 32 machines and the valentines with 102 machines in 3 cabinets. Our storage part has one cluster with 14 Sun X4500 with each a 3 gigabit trunk to the hooi-ei-switch. Our generic servers have a direct gigabit connection with Deel.

We're going to upgrade our network infrastructure because of the need for more bandwidth but also the coming of a new cluster called SMRT (Sint Maarten cluster). This cluster will have 11 blade chassis with each 16 blades and one 10Gbit connection. On the storage side, there will be a new cluster with 12 head nodes and each having their own 10Gbit connection.

To connect this all together, we have bought 2 48 x 10Gbit switches. One for the clusters and one for the storage. The switches will be connected with a 4 x 10Gbit trunk on Deel or on NikOPN. The clusters/storage will be connected to this switch and will have suffient capacity for our big users. This will be done in phase 2 that will be done in October 2009.

Avaiable in October

This image shows the connections between the routers and the switches as they will be in October 2009.

In the third phase an interconnect between the two 10Gbit switches will be made to have a very big bandwidth capability between computing and storage. The connection will be 10 x 10Gbit trunk with the possibility to enlarge to 16 x 10Gbit trunk.

Final infrastructure

This image shows the connections between the routers and the switches as they will be before 2010.
