System information

The product names of the components of Sint Maarten cluster.

  • enclosure: HP BladeSystem c7000 G2
  • blade: HP ProLiant BL460c G6
  • Network switch: HP 1/10Gb-F VC-Enet Module

We have 11 enclosures with each 16 blades and 2 network switches.

List of domainnames and there usage

There are couple of management interfaces for the Sint Maarten cluster per blade enclosure. There is a enclosure management interface called "HP BladeSystem Onboard Administrator". For the blades itself it is called ILO "Integrated Lights-Out management". But also the build in switches has there own management interface called "HP Virtual Connect Manager". Each management interface has there own purpose and will explain them all.

  • smrt-blade-[01-11].ipmi.nikhef.nl are the enclosure management interfaces.
  • wn-smrt-[001-176].ipmi.nikhef.nl are the blade management interfaces.
  • smrt-blade-[01-11].sw[1-2].ipmi.nikhef.nl are the switch management interfaces.

Enclosure management

It is possible to reach all the other management interfaces of the whole enclosure from this one by using the single sign on technique. The enclosures are a HP BladeSystem c7000 G2. It is possible to login into multiple enclosures at the same time. Because of the interconnect between enclosure 1 t/m 6 and 7 t/m 11.

At the left of the screen you'll get a tree with options. To control the blades, you'll find them under Device Bays, from there you'll can remote control them or turn them on or off.

To take over the screen, keyboard and mouse there a 2 ways, one using the enclosure management interface or with the management interface of the blade itself. One warning with using this: use the close button on top of the screen, otherwise the session will stay alive and makes the functionality blocked because of "already connected user".

By using the enclosure interface:

  • Log into the enclosure interface.
  • You'll see drawing of all the blades of that enclosure in front of you. If uou hover with your mouse on top of them, you'll see there names. Click on the one that you want.
  • Then you'll get a screen with a status list of properties of the blade and in which state they are. Just under the tabs you'll see a small bulleted list, with one option called iLO, click on that one.
  • You'll now get a list of options of the type of remote console functionalities.
    • Integrated Remote Console: This is the ActiveX version of remote console for Windows. It has possibilities to mount iso's as virtual cd drives.
    • Remote Console: This is the java based version of remote console. It has all the normal features and it works on allmost all the OSes. (Linux/OSX users, choose this one)
