---+ Setup description The X-ray setup consists of a radiation shielding enclosure hosting a downward pointing X-ray source. Interlock devices allow to operate the setup in a fully safe condition. ---+ Specifications of the Hamamatsu microfocus X-ray source L9421-02 * Voltage range: 0-90 kV * Current range: 0-200 μA (maximum current depends on voltage) * Output window material: 150 μm thick Be * Focal spot size: 7 μm @ 90 kV (5 μm @ 90 kV/4 W) * Maximum X-ray emission angle: ~ 39 degrees * Focal length from X-ray output window (FOD): 9.5 mm * Tungsten target ---+ Experimental settings The setup is currently equipped with the following experimental settings. ---++ Transmission In this case the detector is simply placed in front of the source. Between the detector and the source a sample can be placed, as well as a beam filter (e.g. 20 mm Al). ---++ Fluorescence The primary beam is sent to a metal sample. The detector is placed in the backward direction in order to detect the fluorescent photons emitted from the sample. The detector is enclosed in a lead shield in order to prevent contamination from background radiation. ---++ Computed Tomography Between the source and the detector a stepper motor is placed which allows controlled rotation of the sample while the X-rays are shot. The alignment of the stepper motor axis with respect to the detector is ensured by a system of micrometric translational and tilting stages. ---+
