SPF module. Force the kernel module to work with unsupported SFP. Intel hardware being picky.
sudo rmmod ixgbe
sudo modprobe ixgbe allow_unsupported_sfp=1

For 10G you may need to tweak the buffers (helps with loosing packets)

sudo sysctl -w net.core.rmem_max=134217728
sudo sysctl -w net.core.rmem_default=134217728
In ubuntu make it permanent in /etc/sysctl.conf
