This page contains information on the magnet set-up in H039

General information

The maximum field of the magnet is about 1 Tesla between the poles. The dimensions of the pole gap are LxWxH = 350x180x50 mm, with the field in the H (vertical) direction.

Safety

The magnetic field at the back-side (yoke) of the detector is < 1mT at 5 cm distance when the magnet is at maximum field, and <0.5 mT at 10 cm distance. The fringe field at the (open) front-side is about 5 mT at a distance of 25 cm from the poles when the magnet is at maximum field, and increases rapidly towards the poles. So take care of bringing (magnetic) metallic pieces too close to the magnet. Also it is better to not bring bank/credit cards to the lab when working with the magnet.

Operating instructions & Calibration

The instruction and calibration curve are taped onto the magnet control unit. (and will soon appear at this place)
