This article describes some practical aspects of the Jira instance at Nikhef. It is not intended as a manual for using the Jira software.

Accessing the Jira server

Jira is a web service that you can reach via your browser at https://jira.nikhef.nl

However... this only works from inside the Nikhef network for security reasons. If your device is connected to another network, for example from a university, at home or in a train, you will need to set up a VPN connection to the institute network. The article on eduVPN and the links therein describe how you can configure an eduVPN connection to the institute.

It is possible to install a dedicated app on your Android or iOS phone or tablet to work with Jira. In the Play Store or AppStore, search for Jira Server.

Logging into Jira

Access to Jira is granted via single sign-on (SSO). You can simply login with your SSO username and password.

External users don't have access by default. If access for an external person is needed, a Jira account can be created by the support team on request of the responsible project leader.

After logging in to Jira, you can only see those projects for which you've got access rights. It is possible that new users don't have access to any project. If you believe that you should have access to a specific project, please contact the project's administrator (typically the project leader).
